Drawstring Bags

With a new baby comes a whole lot of new luggage - we can't believe how much stuff we now need just to get out of the front door, never mind for one night away from home. So drawstring bags are uber useful containers for toys or swimming kits or dirty laundry.

Baby Biddle was very lucky to receive this personalised drawstring from his friend Baby Carkeek. Baby Carkeek's mummy used her crafting skills to add the elephants and letters onto a plain canvas bag. Now our little boy is three months old we can take him swimming, so this bag will be so useful for his kit.
Inspired by Mrs Carkeek's efforts, I made this little drawstring bag to celebrate the arrival of a friend's baby girl. Mr Biddle met this friend on a production of Alice Through The Looking Glass, hence the themed fabric, and I embroidered her name on plain calico to give it a personal touch.

Cowboys & Custard

I got these adorable vintage magnets and mirror from Cowboys & Custard, a lovely gift company created by Michele Chivers who is also one of the ladies behind the fab Vintage & Handmade Fairs and Milly & Dottie's Emporium. It's well worth taking a peek at her handmade cards on Not on the High Street by clicking here. I love her use of vintage children's illustrations and objects.

Vintage Birthday Cards

How lovely are these vintage child birthday cards I picked up at the weekend? I love the designs, illustrations and choice of colours. And they're unused so I can send them to the bairns of fellow vintage loving friends.

Site for Sore Eyes: Love Mae

On the search for beautiful and unusual wall decals for Baby Biddle's wall, I came across Love Mae, this beautiful Australian company who specialise in exquisite illustrations for big and little people.

I absolutely love their fabric, reusable wall decals for mini bedrooms - of course the circus and air balloon ones are my favourites.
All images from www.lovemae.com.au
They also do beautiful decals for adults too. This dress-up couple would be cute in a kitchen, and the scrabble tiles and homely messages would catch you out with a smile in hidden corners around the home.
Love Mae also do pretty papers for wrapping and decorations, and if you click here, you'll find free downloadable wallpaper and calendars for your desktop.

Baby Sales

I find the British high street a bit pants when it comes to well designed clothes for little boys. Apart from Baby Gap, I'm finding that the internet is the place to go for prints with panache and delightful designs for the little fella. So I've just gone a bit mad in the online sales and thought I would share my bargain tips (if you live in the UK of course!) for little boys and little girls too.

Having been introduced to Polarn O.Pyret by a friend who lives near their Cambridge store, I ordered a parcel of their lovely, quality garments including these harlequin leggings and Mexico print vest.

I've been desperate to get my hands on clothes from Spanish company Bobo Choses - I love their prints and designs so much I'd happily wear them myself. So imagine my delight when I found a number of their things half price on Hello Bubba including this car print sleep gro and cute little grey t-shirt.
Finally, it's well worth a peek at the Green Baby website. Again, their clothes are great quality with cute designs and plenty of different colours so you can boycott the stereotypical blues and pinks. Baby Biddle has been squirming around in this little orange romper in the balmy heat of this week.

Hello Children Everywhere

Before Cbeebies and the Disney Channel, children of the fifties and sixties would gather around the wireless to hear Uncle Mac announce "Hello Children Everywhere" and play a selection of records suitable for little ears. My Mum was one of those listeners. When we were little in the 80s, Mum bought a double cassette compilation of these songs which we would listen to on long car journeys. Favourite tracks for me and my sister were The Laughing Policeman and You're a Pink Toothbrush, I'm a Blue Toothbrush.

And now, you can buy the compilation on CD or online, so we've been playing the vocals of Shirley Temple, Max Bygraves and others to Baby Biddle. He finds it hilarious when I laugh along with the policeman! What I love about these songs is that they cover a variety of musical styles, are wonderfully vintage, tell funny stories, and aren't naff and patronising in the way many modern children's songs are. I highly recommend it - you can get it from amazon or itunes - under the titles For Children Everywhere and Hello Children Everywhere.
