Pretty Napkins

I was having a browse on the Anthropologie website the other day, drooling over pretty crockery and eyeing up some dainty napkins, when I came over all inspired. I have a box in my office filled with vintage, embroidered table linen - some given to me by my husband's family, some finding its way to me from my Nan's house when she passed away, and others which I just couldn't walk away from in charity shops. These beautifully hand embroidered table cloths are stunning but there are only so many special occasions I can throw one over our dining table so I'm on a constant mission to discover ways to repurpose them to save them from fading away in the box. After my Anthropologie browse, I decided to turn two of them into a new set of napkins which can grace our dining table on Christmas Day and beyond.
This was one of the easiest sewing jobs I've ever done. The two table cloths I chose were square in shape and already a perfect size to simply cut into quarters and sew seams down two sides of each. I am in love with them and can't wait to use them next week. I can imagine doing this again to create a unique wedding present, perhaps gifted with some pretty napkin rings or cake forks.

  2. I love this idea, I too have some lovely tablecloths that don't see the light of day or that they don't fit my table - must give this a try, thanks for sharing!
