Pretty Napkins

I was having a browse on the Anthropologie website the other day, drooling over pretty crockery and eyeing up some dainty napkins, when I came over all inspired. I have a box in my office filled with vintage, embroidered table linen - some given to me by my husband's family, some finding its way to me from my Nan's house when she passed away, and others which I just couldn't walk away from in charity shops. These beautifully hand embroidered table cloths are stunning but there are only so many special occasions I can throw one over our dining table so I'm on a constant mission to discover ways to repurpose them to save them from fading away in the box. After my Anthropologie browse, I decided to turn two of them into a new set of napkins which can grace our dining table on Christmas Day and beyond.
This was one of the easiest sewing jobs I've ever done. The two table cloths I chose were square in shape and already a perfect size to simply cut into quarters and sew seams down two sides of each. I am in love with them and can't wait to use them next week. I can imagine doing this again to create a unique wedding present, perhaps gifted with some pretty napkin rings or cake forks.

Stuck for a Present Idea?

Hello folks. Now I promise not to write about my talented sister in every blog post for ever more - I'm aware her work has been quite a feature here recently - but I couldn't not share these awesome hand screen printed banners with you, especially with Christmas looming close. If you're stuck for an idea for a loved one, how about one of these awesome wall hangings? Each one brings a little smile to my face.
You can get them all via her Not on the High Street shop, where you'll find all kinds of other illustrated goodies from her talented brain and they cost £24.95. If you like the images but don't fancy them as a banner, you can get all three illustrations in plate (£15.95) or print (£19.95) form too.

A Jubilee Year

So how has your 2012 treated you? Has it been a Jubilee one? For me it has been about returning to work as a Mama, and working out how to do the freelancing thing with a little one in tow. All in all, it's gone pretty well, which is with huge thanks to both brilliantly supportive Grandparents and also a treasure of a son who has taken it all in his stride. I've loved getting back to work - to be seen as just me rather than as B's Mummy - and it's definitely made me a better Mum, meaning I value the stretches of time I'm at home with B and that I'm fulfilled in different ways. The downside of all this working and mummying is that I've not had chance to see my friends as much as I would like, and I've hardly picked up a piece if fabric or a needle all year. But I'll keep working on finding the perfect balance in the hope of discovering my version of 'having it all'!

To celebrate this fabulous, Olympic, Jubilee year, I have one of the last remaining Diamond Maj screen prints by my sister, The Little Peach Print Company, to giveaway.

The print is unframed and is a three colour screen print, printed by my sister's own fair hands in her little outhouse studio in Northampton. You can enter in the following ways and each way counts as an entry:
I'm not really a facebook or twitter gal so we'll leave it at that. I'll be putting all names in a hat after 8pm on Saturday 15th December. x

Love it or Hate it?

Marmite? Love it or hate it? Well in my family we love it. It was one of the first things I popped into B's mouth when we started weaning him, and it's my comfort food of choice, especially if I'm feeling poorly. And it always has to be on Warburton's Toastie loaf. I am Northern you know.

If you have yeast extract lovers in your life, I wonder if they might like this little plate of delight in their Christmas stocking? Isn't it lovely? And you guessed it ... it's by my talented little sister.
If you are of the 'hate' persuasion, you might like her other new plates instead. Both are fully customisable so you can choose names and illustrations to depict a loved one or your whole family tree (and I think they can all come as prints too). Available herehere or here. Happy Christmas shopping x
